Halloween cookies

susenky
The days are getting shorter, dark heavy clouds are hanging in the sky, the wind is blowing fallen leaves on the ground and rain is knocking on the window here and there. Come on, fall is coming. And with it also holidays such as Halloween, All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. That's why you can't miss some pastries on your table, associated with Halloween, a holiday that we would translate as All Saints' Eve. This holiday, which is celebrated mainly in Anglo-Saxon countries, has already slowly become popular in our country. It is traditionally associated with pumpkins, ghosts, haunted houses, bats or skeletons. So come make cookies decorated with royal icing in classic Halloween colors like orange, purple and black.
Dough preparation 15 minutes, decorating 120 minutes
25 pieces

Ingredients for the dough:

  • 250 g plain flour
  • 140 g of butter
  • 90 g of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • lemon peel

1. Leave the butter to soften, put the other ingredients in a mixer and work them into a smooth, non-sticky dough. Wrap in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

2 Then we divide the dough into thirds, which we gradually roll out into an approximately 3 mm thin sheet and cut out the selected shapes. Carefully transfer them to the baking sheet.

3. Bake in a hot oven at 160 °C until light pink. Care must be taken, they can burn very quickly.

4. Decorate with royal glaze colored with gel colors . The preparation of the glaze is very simple. Mix the required amount of powder with a little water and beat for 2 minutes at the highest speed. This glaze is then diluted with a few drops of water to the desired consistency. For decorations such as leaves and flowers, it should be stiffer and not melt. A little thinner on the contour lines, but it still shouldn't run. For fillings, it should melt smoothly within 10 seconds.

The whipped frosting will last up to 5 days in the fridge, covered with foil. It must be re-whipped before use.
