It is added to coating and modeling compounds to keep them malleable yet strong for modeling. It helps maintain the desired density even after adding liquid dye. It can also be used as an adhesive.
Use in the production of gum paste: 500 g of powdered sugar, 4 tablespoons of water, 1 tablespoon of glucose, 1 teaspoon of Tylose powder. In a bowl, mix half of the powdered sugar with the Tylose (CMC) powder. Heat the water and dissolve the glucose in it, then add the powdered sugar with the CMC powder. Finally, add the rest of the powdered sugar. Knead the mixture until a modeling mass is formed.
